国立大学法人佐賀大学

佐賀大学で学ぶために、国内を含む世界の７か国から入学して頂いた２３名の入学生のみなさん、ようこそ佐賀大学にいらっしゃいました。佐賀大学の副学長をはじめ、研究科長、教職員、そして学生たちとともに、みなさんお一人お一人を心から歓迎いたします。

I, along with the Vice President, the deans of the graduate school, faculty and students of Saga University, would like to give a hearty welcome to each of the twenty-three (23) students representing seven (7) countries, including Japan, who have come to study at Saga University.

きょう、ここにいらっしゃるみなさんは、佐賀大学の学生になるために、多数の学生の中から選抜されました。留学生のみなさんは、まず、母国の大学で選ばれ、そして、さらには佐賀大学で選ばれました。したがって、みなさんは佐賀大学での留学に対して、高い希望と期待を持って日本に来られたことと思います。

The students present here today were selected from a large group of applicants to become students of Saga University. This is doubly true for the international students who were first selected to attend their home universities and then more recently, here at Saga University.
　I am sure all of you have come to Japan with high hopes and expectations about studying abroad at Saga University.

佐賀大学は、学術分野における国際交流だけではなく、学生の国際交流にも力を入れています。我々の教育の目標は、世界の中で積極的な役割を果たすことのできる人材を養成することです。ですから、みなさんが佐賀大学に来て、国際化に貢献していただくことに対し、心からお礼を申し上げます。

Saga University emphasizes and encourages not only international academic exchange but also international student exchange. Our goal of education is "to educate people who can take an active role in the world ". I thank you for coming to our university and for contributing to its internationalization.

さて、ここ佐賀大学では、佐賀県立有田窯業大学校を統合して現在の文化教育学部を改組し、新たに「教育学部」と「芸術地域デザイン学部」、そして教育学研究科と経済学研究科を再編し、新たに「学校教育学研究科」と「地域デザイン研究科」を来春2016年に創設する準備を着々と進めてきました。また、理系学部の改組を含めた検討も開始しています。
　さらに、キャンパス自体も医学部附属病院の再整備をはじめ、大規模なキャンパス整備も着々と進めていますので、みなさんのキャンパスライフがますます充実したものになることを期待しています。

Saga University is now preparing for a big reorganization for Spring 2016. At the undergraduate level, the Arita College of Ceramics and the Faculty of Culture and Education will be integrated and two new faculties, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Art and Regional Design, will be established. At the Graduate level, the Graduate School of Education and the Graduate School of Economics will be integrated and two new graduate schools, the Graduate School of Teacher Education and the Graduate School of Regional Design in Art and Economics will be established. Also, we’re preparing for the future reorganization of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture.
　As you may have seen on the campus here we also have more projects such as the large-scale improvement of the campus and the redevelopment of Saga University Hospital. It is my sincerest wish that from these redevelopments and improvements that your campus life will be more fruitful.

どうか、佐賀大学の在学中に、まわりの多くの学生と友達になると同時に自分の専門分野の先生方と親交を深めてください。また、大学の外に出て行って、地域の人々ともぜひ交流してください。佐賀では、年間を通して多くのイベントがあります。それらのイベントに参加することによって、日本の文化や社会や自然についてたくさん知ることができるでしょう。そのことにより、大学生活がより一層豊かになることと思います。

While you are here, please take the opportunity to make friends with other students at the university and become acquainted with the professors in your respective fields of study. I also encourage each of you to get to know local people outside the university. There are many events throughout the year here in Saga. Attending these will be a good opportunity for you to get to know much about the culture, society, and nature of Japan and further enhance the rewards of your life at Saga University.

最後になりましたが、みなさんの佐賀での滞在が、学問の上で意味深いものとなり、将来のキャリアにつながることを願っています。
