A new species of squid eel that produces the high value-added fatty acid DHA in a lake in Saga City

A research team led by Dr. Mikihide Demura of the Faculty of Agriculture, Saga University, in collaboration with Saga City and the Saga Algal Biomass Committee, has discovered a new species of squid eel that produces DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), a high value-added fatty acid that can also be added as a supplement. This is the first time in Japan that a DHA-producing cuttlefish has been discovered, and this cuttlefish has been named Desmodesmus dohacommunis. The squid eel discovered in Saga City can contribute to the region not only in terms of creating new products, but also in terms of resource recovery.
