Vice President MISHIMA and others attend an exchange meeting in Shanghai, China, hosted by the Overseas Alumni Association of Saga University
On September 28, The China-Shanghai Exchange Party organized by the Overseas Alumni Association (China), formed by former international students of Saga University was held at the Center for Japanese Studies, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. A total of 23 people attended the meeting, including Vice President MISHIMA Nobuo (International Affairs), SATO Kazuya (Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering), YADA Hiromi (Head, Office for International Planning), and Chinese alumni who studied at Saga University and have returned to China to strengthen the overseas human network.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President MISHIMA handed letters of appointment from President KODAMA Hiroaki to alumni Professor DING Jian, Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s School of Foreign Languages and Deputy Director of the Center for Japanese Studies, and Professor Tang Xiaowu, Deputy- Dean of International College, Zhejiang University.
Vice President MISHIMA then asked Professor Tang to become the second co-president of the China Alumni Association, to which they both readily agreed. Vice President MISHIMA then expressed his hope that the overseas alumni associations will strengthen the human network between Saga University and China, and that the relationship between Saga University and its alumni will further promote international academic exchange.
At the same time, there was a lively exchange of views on new personal exchanges between Saga university and various universities where Saga University alumni are active, and participants enjoyed talking about reuniting with friends and former mentors after a long absence. The meeting ended on a high note, with all participants taking a commemorative photo to say goodbye and looking forward to meeting again at the next Overseas Homecoming Day to be hosted by Saga university.
The meeting was held with the generous cooperation of Liu Haiqiang, an alumnus and associate professor at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, who is currently visiting Japan as a Saga university foreign researcher, and Chinese students enrolled at Saga university.
On the following day, September 29, Vice President MISHIMA and three others visited Professor Ge Jian, Party Secretary of the Honors College of Zhejiang University CHU KOCHEN and Saga University alumnus and Special Envoy, and Professor Tang Xiaowu of the same university. They exchanged opinions on the strengthening of human networks with Saga university through the Special Envoys and other means, and on the future dispatch of students to Saga university.
Saga University has been strengthening its ties with a wide range of overseas research institutions, especially in Asia, to enhance the quality of its education and research by raising its standards as an international academic center. Therefore, through this visit, we expect to strengthen and promote human networks with alumni and Special Envoys, as well as to promote new human exchanges with top Chinese universities where alumni are active.
