President Kodama appoints Saga University alumnus Chen Xuedong, a graduate of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as a Saga University Special Envoy

On September 30, MISHIMA Nobuo, Vice President for International Affairs of Saga University, SATO Kazuya, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and YADA Hiromi, Head of the Office for International Planning, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Chen Xuedong, a Chinese Academy of Engineering (Academician) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, a Saga University alumnus, and Zhang Yuhui, Vice President of the same university.

Academician Chen Xuedong was newly elected as an academician, the highest title awarded by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, at the academy’s conference held in November 2023.

At the beginning of the courtesy visit, Vice President Zhang Yuhui gave a welcome speech, and Vice President MISHIMA congratulated Dr. Chen Xuedong and handed him a letter of appointment from President KODAMA Hiroaki, expressing his expectations for the new relationship between Saga University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Chen Xuedong was very pleased to receive the delegation from his alma mater, and they talked about his impressions of the research attitude of Japanese researchers when he studied at Saga University and his memories of Saga.

The delegation then toured the education and research environment of the world-leading School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, guided by Dr. Chen Xuedong, and visited the exhibition room where the history and research achievements of the School are on display.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Chen Xuedong on his election as an academician. We strongly anticipate his continued success in his research and his role as a Saga University’s Special Envoy for academic exchange.
