Professor Uemura, School of Medicine – Asahi Shoes, Ltd. Joint Research on Foot-Friendly Shoes 2024 Kyushu Regional Commendation for Invention, Fukuoka Prefecture Invention Association Chairman’s Award

“Asahi Foot Care”, which are foot-friendly shoes and jointly developed by the Prof. Uemura Laboratory of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, and Asahi Shoes Corporation, has received the 2024 Kyushu Regional Commendation for Invention and the Fukuoka Prefecture Invention Association Chairman’s Award. The development was conducted with the aim of creating foot-friendly shoes for people who need care for foot lesions caused by diabetes, and the invention of a special rod-shaped structure (Motion Guide Slope) placed on the sole of the shoe (Japanese Patent 7062234 “Shoe sole”) that promotes walking in a correct posture was the subject of the award. Asahi Foot Care is a hit product that has sold a cumulative total of 120,000 pairs since its launch, and has been well received by hospital staff also who spend long hours on their feet.
