On February 3, 2025, President Chung Tai Joo of Andong National University in South Korea and a delegation of six paid a courtesy visit to Saga University President KODAMA Hiroaki, who was accompanied by Director YAMASHITA Munetoshi (Education & Student Affairs), Vice-President and Vice President MISHIMA Nobuo, Director of the Center for International Exchange. During the courtesy visit, President KODAMA warmly welcomed the delegation and gave them a welcoming speech, expressing his gratitude for sending excellent international students from Andong National University to Saga university every year. President Chung also introduced the university’s merger with Gyeongguk Provincial University and its designation as “Global University project”¹ by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, and expressed his desire to continue to deepen the relationship with Saga University through the renewal of the academic exchange agreement scheduled for this year. After that, they exchanged opinions on how to promote student exchange in the future.
At the end of the visit, President KODAMA presented an Arita-yaki ceramic box from Saga Prefecture as a commemorative gift, and a commemorative photo was taken. Afterwards, a student who plans to study abroad at Andong National University in March of this year gave a speech in fluent Korean and expressed his aspirations for his study abroad.
Since the signing of an academic exchange agreement in 1997, there has been active exchange, especially in terms of student exchange. It is hoped that this visit will be an opportunity to further develop exchange with Andong National University. ¹This program is designed to lead regional development in conjunction with the regional development strategies of local governments, to drive the growth of other universities in the region, and to support their growth into world-class universities in specialized fields.
