On March 6, 2026, a five-member delegation from the Faculty of Economics and Management at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), led by Vice Dean Dr. Nguyen Mau Dung, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Shigehisa Aoki, Executive Director of Research and Community Cooperation Affairs at Saga University.

Since signing their academic exchange agreement in 2000, the two universities have maintained a strong partnership for 25 years. Under Saga University’s Vision 2030 and the Strategic Partnership Project launched in FY2024, a research group led by Professor Kazunari Tsuji has advanced joint Japan–Vietnam research on the “sustainable circular economy.” Following this year’s agreement renewal, collaboration has accelerated further. During the meeting, Vietnamese interpretation was provided by Dr. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, an assistant professor in the group and a Saga University alumna.

During the discussion, the VNUA delegation proposed establishing a “Saga University Research Office” within VNUA and expressed appreciation for Saga University’s Homecoming Day held in Vietnam in December 2024. They also noted that several VNUA faculty members are Saga University graduates, underscoring the central role of researchers with Japan study‑abroad experience in both countries. Dr. Aoki welcomed the proposal and emphasized expectations for advancing joint research through the new office and fostering the next generation of talent. He added that agriculture is a comprehensive field and that Saga University’s multiple faculties offer opportunities to expand interdisciplinary collaboration and promote university‑wide exchange between Japan and Vietnam.

The delegation will present their research at the international seminar “Challenges in Building a Circular Economy in Vietnam and Japan,” held from March 6 onward, continuing efforts to co-create new academic knowledge built on decades of mutual trust.
