On April 16, 2026, Mr. Imran bin Yussof, Counsellor, Office of Education and Training, Public Service Department, Embassy of Malaysia, paid a courtesy visit to Saga University. He met with Mr. Shigehisa Aoki, Executive Director for Research and International Affairs; Prof. Yasuyuki Ikegami, Director of Institute of Ocean Energy; and Mr. Masahiro Ito, Head of the Office for Student Exchange, Division of Academic Affairs
During the meeting, Mr. Imran expressed the Government of Malaysia’s appreciation for Saga University’s long-standing support for Malaysian government-sponsored students. Mr. Ito introduced the university’s international student support initiatives, highlighting its warm, family-oriented approach by faculty and staff and the strong sense of community among students.
Mr. Aoki referred to the Japan–Malaysia Summit Meeting in January 2025, which reinforced cooperation on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC), and to the opening of the OTEC Center in Port Dickson, Malaysia, in February 2025, noting the increasing importance of bilateral collaboration at the governmental level. Prof. Ikegami then reported on the progress of the SATREPS project, including the development of a Malaysia-specific system supplying both electricity and freshwater and the training of 50 Malaysian researchersto date.
Saga University will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the Government of Malaysia and partner institutions, promoting human resource development and advancing international cooperation in the field of ocean energy.
