学内教職員用駐日インド大使らが佐賀大学、兒玉学長を表敬訪問
佐賀大学は、3月4日、H.E. Mr.Sibi GEORGE 駐日インド大使、Mr. Ajay SETHI駐日インド大使館二等書記官ら3名による学長表敬を受けました。
本学からは兒玉 浩明 学長をはじめ、豊田 一彦 理事（研究・社会連携担当）や三島 伸雄副学長（国際担当）らが出迎え、兒玉学長から「本学とインドの研究者は様々な分野で活発に交流しており、今回お会いできたことを非常に光栄に思う」と歓迎の挨拶がありました。大使は、「今年は日印関係が特別戦略的グローバル・パートナーシップへ発展した10年目の年であり、これを機会に企業や学生の交流が進み、二国間の関係がますます強化されることを期待している」と述べられました。その後、兒玉学長より有田焼の陶板を記念品として贈呈し、記念撮影を経て、和やかに表敬訪問は終了しました。
その後、一行はインド出身の研究者らとの懇談会に出席しました。海洋エネルギー研究所の池上 康之 所長、インド出身のSharath Srinivasamurthy助教からは、研究所施設の紹介や20年以上にわたりインドと取り組んでいる、海洋温度差発電のプロジェクトの紹介が行われました。そして、農学部 堀谷 正樹 准教授、共同研究のため来日していたRani Channamma大学のBalachandra G Hegde教授、P M Gurubasavaraja助教からは2大学で取り組んでいる金属酵素モデルに関する共同研究についての紹介が行われました。大使は熱心に話を聞かれ、研究者と意見を交わし、とても有意義な懇談会となりました。
今回の訪問は、本学と同国の大学との国際的な交流促進が期待される、非常に貴重な機会となりました。

On 4 March, 2024, Saga University received a courtesy call on the President from H.E. Mr. Sibi GEORGE, Indian Ambassador to Japan and Ajay SETHI, Second Secretary, Embassy of India in Japan.
President Prof. Dr. KODAMA Hiroaki, Director (Research & Community Cooperation Affairs) Prof. Dr. TOYODA Ichihiko, Vice President (International) Prof. Dr. MISHIMA Nobuo, and others welcomed the delegation. President KODAMA delivered a welcoming speech, stating, “It is a great honor for me to meet you this time, as researchers from Saga University and India have been actively exchanging ideas across various fields.” The Ambassador noted, “This year marks the 10th anniversary of the development of the Japan-India relationship into a Special Strategic and Global Partnership. I hope this visit will further strengthen our bilateral ties through increased exchange of companies and students.” Subsequently, President KODAMA presented an Arita porcelain ceramic plate as a commemorative gift. Following a photo session, the courtesy visit concluded on a friendly note.
Following the courtesy visit, they participated in a roundtable meeting with researchers. Prof. Dr. IKEGAMI Yasuyuki, Director of the Institute of Ocean Energy (IOES), and Assistant Professor Dr. Sharath Srinivasamurthy from India introduced the IOES’s facilities and the ocean thermal energy conversion project they have collaboratively worked on for over 20 years. Additionally, Associate Professor HORITANI Masaki from the Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Balachandra G Hegde, and Assistant Professor P M Gurubasavaraja from Rani Channamma University (who were in Japan for joint research) presented their work on metalloenzyme models. The Ambassador actively engaged with the researchers, exchanging opinions and contributing to a highly meaningful meeting.
The Ambassador’s visit provided an extremely valuable opportunity to promote international exchange between Saga university and universities in India.
